Celebrate 25 years of marriage with the gift of silver. Elegant and durable, silver is used in a variety of products ranging from household accessories to fine jewelry. The tradition of giving silver began centuries ago in central Europe during medieval times. Medieval Germans would present a wife a wreath made of silver once she lived with her husband for 25 years. Continue the tradition by choosing a gift that contains silver; make it perfect by personalizing it according to the couple or individual's tastes and preferences.

    Jewelry

    • Perhaps jewelry is the most obvious choice; however, silver jewelry is also appropriate for women and men alike. Silver is moderately priced as compared to other materials, such as gold or platinum. It is used in a variety of jewelry-related items. Rings, cuff links, tie tacks, chains or keychains can be purchased for a man. Buy a woman a pair of earrings, pendant, necklace, ring or brooch. Select items that are entirely silver or jewelry that integrates other materials such as gemstones. The most important factor in buying jewelry is to do so with the person for whom you are buying it firmly in mind. Anniversary gifts should ideally be tailored to the recipient's personality.

    Decorative Household Items

    • Consider buying decorative household items, such as a silver vase, candle holders, a mirror or a set of flatware. Frame a picture of the happy couple in a decorative silver frame for a personal touch or select an engraved item--such as a silver clock--that can be personalized with names and dates.

    Less Conventional Gifts

    • Break from tradition with slightly less conventional gifts. The tinkling sound of silver wind chimes will always remind the couple of this momentous occasion. Consider items that can be used or referred to on a daily basis, such as stemware that incorporates a touch of silver, a silver-plated coffee scoop or a silver-plated photo album. Give him a personalized silver golf nameplate or other golfing accessories. Buy a dozen silver roses for her.

    Throw a Party

    • Throw the happy couple a surprise anniversary party. Hold the event at home or at another venue, such as the couple's favorite restaurant. Have a brunch, cocktail party or sit-down dinner. The most important factors are designing a party around the people who you will be celebrating. Decorate with touches of silver. Add at least one wedding photo to the decor. Play the couple's favorite music in the background. Dancing to their wedding song on their 25th anniversary will be a special blend of new and old memories for the celebrated couple.
