Boston Whaler fishing boats were first crafted in 1958 and while styling and designs have changed, they are still all unsinkable. Even if the boat is sawed in half, each part will still remain afloat. Unique nautical engineering and quality craftsmanship are just some reasons this boat company is still flourishing.
Unibond Hull
-
At the heart of a Boston Whaler is its unique Unibond twin-sponson construction. The fiberglass hull and deck are permanently joined together using high-density, non-absorbent foam. Every space in the Unibond hull is filled with this closed-cell foam which provides exceptional strength and sound and vibration absorption, and creates a truly unsinkable structure. Even if swamped, a Boston Whaler will float level because the foam is positioned right up the gunnels, or topside, of the boat, providing a protective ring around its passengers.
Materials
-
The Boston Whaler boat-builders feel that using quality materials makes these fishing boats more durable. Premium resin is used during manufacture of the hand-laid fiberglass molding to help resist blistering. Hardware components crafted with solid 316-L stainless steel are used throughout the boats. This high-grade molybdenum-blended stainless steel is the low-carbon version of 316-grade steel that makes it especially resistant to corrosion in marine environments. Yacht-quality materials like gel-coat-finished fiberglass provide high-gloss surfaces that are durable and provide for easy cleanup. Durable acrylic consoles and windshields are standard fare on all Whalers. Corrosion-resistant materials extend to the electrical system that use multistrand insulated tinned copper wire. Electrical heat-sink connectors are insulated and epoxy-glued to prevent salt-water from getting in.
