Hanging Plants & Vines

Hanging plants are vines, annuals and perennials that you can grow in a hanging container like a plastic or wire basket, clay pot or wooden or metal container. Hanging plants can add a picturesque look to your porch, patio or balcony.
  • Hanging Vines

    • You can choose from among several kinds of climbing vines that can be grown in hanging baskets, draped over wires and walls or even grown indoors. Commonly grown hanging vines include Melanie ivy, Midas touch ivy, English ivy and golden ingot.

    Other Hanging Plants

    • In addition to vines, you can also choose from among a number of other hanging plants. Begonias, fuchsia and marigolds are all grown in hanging containers, as are pansies, petunias and salvias.

    Climate and Conditions

    • Different hanging plants have different needs, so be sure to match soil type, moisture levels and sun or shade to the preferences of the specific plant you choose. Also, consult a USDA hardiness zone map to help you decide which hanging plants are right for your climate.
