Hints for Search & Destroy

    • The "Call of Duty" franchise offers gamers competitive multiplayer missions in Search and Destroy mode. Multiplayer missions pit two teams against each other to defend or defuse a bomb in a four or seven round game, or in one-on-one deathmatches. Game play can be tricky, but with the right knowledge, players have a better chance of winning rounds.

    Maps

    • Use maps to tactical advantage. Maps with a lot of debris offer hiding spots, and maps with open areas, like Airfield in "Call of Duty: World at War," make it easy for snipers to pick off players. Likewise, small maps, like "World at War's" Asylum, offer up close and personal fighting. Knowing the map helps players pick out appropriate weapons and tactical strategies.

    Strategize

    • A strategy is the key to winning games. Many players merely run around and shoot at enemies, but players who utilize stealth and plan their route and weapon use have an advantage. Keep in mind the enemy's objective; if the enemy is guarding a bomb, look for claymores. Also remember the differences in the difficulty settings; on hardcore setting in "COD4" and "COD5," once a claymore is tripped, it cannot be outrun. Some players find it useful to plant claymores in doorways or pathways leading to the bomb, as they can be harder to spot.

    Servers

    • Search and Destroy's different servers offer different rules; some outlaw grenades and air strikes in the first 20 seconds, and some restrict the kinds of weapons in use throughout the game. Finding a server with good rules is a matter of personal preference, so shop around.

    Listen

    • With items like silencers and UV jammers, it can sometimes be hard to figure out where the enemy is. Unlike many other games, in "Call of Duty," players can hear each other's footsteps. Listening for the enemy provides valuable information, although players should keep in mind that the enemy is also listening, which makes crouching during movement helpful. The eavesdrop perk in "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" allows players to listen in on enemy communication.
