Open the glove compartment of your Toyota. Pull out the booklet inside entitled Owner's Warranty Information. This will list the type of warranty your Toyota carries.
If it says you are covered up to three years or 36,000 miles, you have the basic warranty. If it lists anything else, you have an extended warranty. Types of extended warranties include a Powertrain warranty, rust-through coverage warranty, or federal emissions warranty.

Contact your local Toyota dealer and ask for a replacement copy of the Owner's Warranty Information booklet if yours is missing. If you bought the Toyota used, contact the seller and ask for a copy of the booklet. If the seller cannot provide one, contact a local Toyota dealer and request a replacement.

Contact Toyota's Material Distribution Center directly if your local dealer cannot provide a replacement Owner's Warranty Manual. The center can be reached at 1-800-622-2033 or 310-761-9400 from Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time.

Contact your state department of motor vehicles to see if your car has a Salvage title, or check your car's VIN against the Carfax database. If your Toyota has a Salvage title, it is not covered by any warranty, even if it falls under the age or mileage parameters for warranty coverage.

How Can I Tell if My Toyota Car Has an Extended Warranty?
Every new Toyota vehicle comes with a basic warranty that covers the first three years or 36,000 miles of use, but some come with extended warranties that cover much more. The type of warranty you have will be written in the owner's manual.
