How to Change the Resolution on a Mobile Game

There are many games available for your mobile phone. Sometimes they work perfectly, with the display coming up on your phone's screen with no issues. Other games, however, may be too small or too large for your screen. This means the resolution, or number of pixels displayed, between your phone and the game does not match. You cannot change the resolution of your screen to match these games, but it is possible to change the resolution of the game itself.

Open the .jar file for the game. The .jar file holds the Java scripting that controls the game. A .jar file is a variant of a .rar file and must be opened by a certain type of program. WinRAR is one such program that offers a free trial evaluation, although there are others. Once you have a program that can open .rar files, double-click the .jar to open it in the program.

Open the folder labeled META-INF while still in WinRAR. Locate the folder name and double-click it to access the contents.

Locate the file MANIFEST.mf. Copy it to your desktop by clicking on it and dragging it to the desktop before releasing it. Open it in a word processing program such as Notepad. If it does not open in Notepad automatically, right-click on the file, go to "Open With" and select Notepad.

Add two lines of code at the end of the file to change the resolution of the game. Type Nokia-MIDlet-Original-Display-Size: xxx, xxx. The xxx,xxx is the original resolution of the game. You can find this on the game developer's website if you do not know it already. Directly below that line of code, type Nokia-MIDlet-Target-Display-Size: xxx, xxx. The xxxx, xxx in this code is the resolution of your screen. If you do not know this already, it is located in your phone documentation or on the manufacturer's website. The code will look like this when you are done:

      Nokia-MIDlet-Original-Display-Size: 176,208

      Nokia-MIDlet-Target-Display-Size: 352,416

The numbers may differ depending on your model of phone.

Save the file. Drag and drop it from the desktop back into the .jar file where you copied it from. Make sure it is in the same folder, and if asked to replace or save over the original file, say "Yes." Close your .rar program. Send the .jar file to your phone and your game should fit on your screen, ready to play.
