How to Check for Codes on a Nissan Pathfinder 2001

You can check the trouble codes on your 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, using an OBD II code reader. This can be purchased from any auto parts store. The Pathfinder's computer stores trouble codes that can be read, using an OBD II code reader. These codes are for diagnostic purposes and will tell you exactly what the problem is with your Nissan. Once the codes are retrieved, you can look them up in the code reader's manual.

Find a diagnostic port underneath the steering column. This port is the same size and shape as the OBD II code reader's connector.

Plug the code reader into the port and turn it on.

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position. Make sure you don't start the engine.

    • 4

Wait for the code reader to interface with the vehicle's computer and then display the alphanumeric codes. Write down the codes on a piece of paper.

Look up the meaning of the codes in the OBD II code reader manual. Turn off and unplug the reader from the port and turn off the Pathfinder.
