How to Repair Rust on a Toyota Truck

Toyota trucks have been manufactured for decades. Like most vehicles rust is a problem. When the rust-proof layer on the truck wears off over time, the truck becomes rusty. Rust forms when the metal of the truck is in frequent contact with water or moisture. Removing rust as soon as appears is a part of regular maintenance to keep the vehicle in good condition.
    • 1

Scrub off the rust with a wire brush.

    • 2

Put on gloves to protect hands. Pour a small amount of a commercial rust remover onto a steel wool pad. Apply the rust remover to the rust on the truck.

    • 3

Leave the rust remover on for 10 minutes or according to the instructions on the label. Rust removers contain chemicals such as phosphoric acid or oxalic acid that dissolve rust.

    • 4

Wipe away the rust and the remover with a rag or paper towel.

    • 5

Apply a rust-proof primer made for automobiles using a paint brush. Allow the primer to dry completely.

    • 6

Use touch-up paint in the noticeable areas. Use the same color of paint as the Toyota truck. Allow the paint to dry.
