How to Share a Cable Connection

If you receive cable service and have multiple devices that can share a cable connection but only have one line coming into your location, it is possible to share that connection by using a coaxial splitter. A coaxial splitter is designed to have multiple coaxial cables hooked up to it, allowing the incoming signal to be "split" between all attached cables. This will allow you to run your cable modem and television from the same line or install cable jacks in multiple rooms of your home.

Disconnect the source coaxial cable from any media device currently in use. The source cable is the one connected directly to your cable box.

    • 2

Attach the source cable to the port labeled "In" on the coaxial splitter.

    • 3

Attach a coaxial cable to the port labeled "Out" on the coaxial splitter. You will need to attach one cable for each device that will share your cable connection.

Attach the other end of the coaxial cable to the "Out" port on the media device that will be sharing the cable signal. Repeat this step for each device that you wish to connect to the coaxial splitter.
