How to Use a Cherry Pitter to Pit Olives

Cherry pitters or stoners are used to remove the pits from cherries and olives. The pits need to be removed when you preserve the olives or you need to add them to a recipe. A hand-held cherry pitter contains a shaft and two handles that will easily remove the pit from the olive, without causing damage. Removing the pit from an olive or cherry requires the same process.
    • 1

Place the olive in the cherry pitter on the center of the open ring or hole.

    • 2

Hold the cherry pitter over a bowl, which will catch the pit of the olive.

    • 3

Squeeze the handles on the cherry pitter. The shaft will pierce the olive. The pit of the olive will come out through the open hole on the device.
