Information on the 1957 Dodge Coronet

The Dodge Coronet was redesigned for 1957. The car was larger, lower to the ground and more powerful. The Coronet also offered a special high-performance engine that featured a hemi in 1957.
  • Significance

    • The 501 was a high-performance car designed for racing. The company had to make at least 100 so it could be used on the NASCAR circuit, so it made 101. The car had a 354 cubic-inch hemi that produced 340 horsepower.

    Style

    • The grille and back fenders were the areas of greatest change to the appearance of the 1957 Coronet. It now had large tail fins to match what other car makers were doing at the time and headlights were placed inside the fender. There was also a lot more chrome throughout the vehicle.

    Size

    • The Coronet had a 122-inch wheelbase and was around 3,600 pounds. It was 212 inches long, 77.9 inches wide and 58 inches tall. Engines not designed for racing included a six-cylinder 230 cubic inch engine and a V-8 with 341 cubic inches.

      Coronets ranged in price from $2,200 to $2,600.
