The Technical Specifications for the Nintendo Wii

    • Nintendo released the Wii to critical acclaim and huge sales in 2006. The console features motion controls since copied by Sony and Microsoft for their home video gaming devices. The Wii supports two types of discs from Nintendo's gaming consoles, and players can connect to the Internet to download more games.

    Dimensions

    • The Wii has a height of 1.75 inches when laid flat, and is 8.5 inches long and 6 inches wide. It weighs 3.84 lbs.

    Disc Support

    • The Wii will play only game discs manufactured for the Wii and Nintendo's previous gaming console, the GameCube. These discs are manufactured for specific regions of the world, and a Wii will only play discs made for the same region in which the console was sold in an effort to curtail piracy. The Wii does not play CDs, DVDs or other forms of media.

    Hardware

    • The Wii features an IBM PowerPC processor with a RISC instruction set. The video output is ATI Hollywood. The console includes 512 megabytes of installed RAM.

    Inputs

    • The Wii supports both wired and wireless joysticks, including GameCube and "classic" controllers, and the wireless Wii Remote with motion control. The console supports rumble feedback in the controllers. The Wii can access the Internet through either a wired or wireless connection, and stays connected 24 hours a day to automatically download new information.

    Connections

    • The Wii features four connections for GameCube and classic controllers. The back of the console has component and composite video outputs as well as an S-video output. Expansion slots allow for the insertion of a single SD memory card and two GameCube memory cards.
