Troubleshooting RealPlayer Not Recognizing a CD Burner

RealPlayer is an audio and video media player program for Windows. RealPlayer includes a CD-burning function for burning music and video discs to blank CDs. If RealPlayer doesn't recognize a CD burner on your computer, it won't be able to burn CDs. RealPlayer doesn't support every CD-burning device and might not support your computer's device. Its advanced settings might need tweaking for your model or it might need updated drivers.

  Verify your computer contains a CD-burning drive. Not all CD-ROM drives are CD-burning drives. Contact your computer manufacturer if you're not sure.

  Check whether RealPlayer supports your CD burner. Open RealPlayer's supported drives Web page (see Resources), press "Ctrl" and "F" in your Web browser at the same time, type your drive's model number and press "Enter" to see if it's listed as a supported drive. Consult your computer's documentation if you don't know your CD burner's model number.

  Change RealPlayer's advanced CD settings by clicking the "Tools" menu in the RealPlayer window, clicking "Preferences," clicking the plus sign to the left of "CD," clicking "Advanced CD," clicking "Advanced Digital Options," clicking "Generic" for the digital extraction method setting, clicking "OK" twice and restarting RealPlayer. Try selecting "SCSI" or "ASPI" instead if "Generic" doesn't work.

  Install updated drivers for RealPlayer by clicking the "Tools" menu in RealPlayer, clicking "Check for Update," clicking "Drivers," clicking the "Adaptec ASPI Layer" checkbox, clicking "Install" and restarting your computer when the installer finishes.
