The Average Rainfall in a Year in Vermont's White River Watershed

Vermont's White River Watershed covers 454,000 acres of land, encompassing 21 towns in the center of the state. The river itself runs for 56 miles and is 95 percent undeveloped.

    • The White River itself is part of the Connecticut River Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program, a point of focus for the Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge and a tributary of the Connecticut River, which is an American Heritage River.

    • Average rainfall in the White River area of Vermont is 36.20 inches per year. The majority of the rain falls in August, which is the wettest month of the year with an average of 3.5 inches.

    Water Usage

    • Everyday water usage from the White River watershed, including irrigation for farming and drinking water for residents livestock, can total up to 230,000 gallons per day. The waterways included in the watershed are also used as recreational areas for swimming, boating and fishing.
