The Components of an HP Pavilion DV1000

    • The Hewlett-Packard Pavilion DV1000 is a personal and professional laptop designed to run the Windows XP operating system. Released in 2004, the system was originally at the higher end of mobile computers, with features including a Quickplay button, a removable remote control and even Bluetooth capability on the integrated wireless card, which was a rarity among laptops at the time.

    Processor and Power

    • The HP Pavilion DV1000 utilizes a 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium M processor. This processor, a version of the Pentium processor specifically manufactured for mobile computers, is considered highly power-efficient: it is classified as an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) unit. An integrated Intel 855GM chipset powers the laptop's video functions. The 6-cell battery enables about three hours of light activity per charge.

    Memory

    • A single 512 RAM card comes pre-installed in the laptop. The HP Pavilion DV1000 has two RAM slots, each of which can hold a 1 MB card, giving the laptop a maximum of 2 GB of RAM. An 80 GB, 4200 rpm hard drive comes standard with the unit. The DV1000 has room for an optional floppy drive.

    Media

    • The DV1000 has a 14-inch widescreen display; its Intel Extreme Graphics video card can support up to a 1280x768 resolution. This card can handle most multimedia entertainment and some light gaming, but its lack of dedicated memory means it can't support more graphically-intense games. A CD/DVD-RW drive comes installed; the DV1000's Quickplay buttons at the top of the keyboard can operate the drive, playing music CDs or movie DVDs even if the operating system is shut down.

    Ports and Connectivity

    • An integrated Intel 2200 wireless card, with Bluetooth capability, complements the usual fax modem, and Ethernet components. The HP Pavilion DV1000 model also includes a PC Card (Type I/II) slot, one IEEE 1394 (FireWire) port, six high-speed USB ports and the standard headphone and microphone jacks.
