Paper Misfeed
-
Occasionally, paper will get jammed in a printer or copier. The most common cause is a paper misfeed. Torn bits of paper clogging the feeder, several sheets of paper sticking together, or some other issue with the paper feeding mechanism can cause a jam. You will need to open up the device and ensure that all paper and debris is removed from its inner workings before it can recognize the jam as resolved.
Improperly Loaded Paper
-
Improperly loaded paper can cause jams. If the paper is not evenly aligned or is warped due to excessive humidity, a jam may occur.
Dirty Rollers
-
If excess toner or paper dust builds up on the feed rollers of the printer or copier, it can prevent paper from being smoothly fed from the supply tray to the end of the line. Rollers should be cleaned with a dry cloth or brush. A damp towel can also be used; however, avoid alcohol-based cleaners, which may damage the rollers.
Paper Guides
-
For paper trays with side guides that allow you to print on various sizes of paper, it is important to make sure that the guides are not too tight or too loose against the paper. Improper alignment of the side guides can cause paper jams.
Software Issues
-
Copier jams can be caused by software glitches or a missing software driver. You may need to contact the manufacturer's support center to resolve software-related issues that are jamming your printer or copier.
