Do You Need a Gun License for a .22 Caliber?

Gun laws are not monolithic. There are federal laws that specifically address gun control, gun possession and the concealing of a weapon. Individual state laws, however, often differ from federal laws.
  • History

    • The Second Amendment states that "a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

    What Is a .22 caliber?

    • These are weapons with ammunition whose diameter measures .22 inches. There are many types of guns that use this size ammunition; these guns include revolvers, rifles, pistols and shotguns.

    Licenses

    • To own a .22 caliber, it is necessary to complete a Federal Firearms License application. The application is available on its website. If a person is buying a .22 caliber at a gun show, for instance, the person should also fill out Form 4473. You must submit this form to the AFT (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.)
