Garmin produces a host of navigation systems to guide you to your next destination. Many features allow you to keep your hands on the steering wheel. There is no need to touch the navigation device to type in your destination's address. You will also have some of the most up-to-date maps available in the country. The Garmin global-positioning-system features not only get you to your location, but also assist in avoiding accidents.

    Free Updates

    • The Garmin offers free lifetime map updates, which includes up to four map information updates per year, for particular nuvi navigational models. Owners of the select Garmin devices can receive free lifetime traffic updates. The feature is only available until the useful life of the product expires or until the company stops receiving maps or traffic information from the third-party supplier, according to Garmin.

    Speak Commands

    • Some Garmin navigation products can respond to your voice as well as speak the direction. The feature allows you to maintain both hands on the steering wheel and still operate the device by voice command. For instance, you can say an address and the "speak command" feature starts to compute the navigational options.

    Hands-Free Calls

    • Garmin navigational products have Bluetooth wireless technology. Some units require you to tap the device's screen and then talk in the built-in microphone. You must have a Bluetooth-compatible phone for the hands-free feature to work properly.

    3-D Turn-By-Turn Directions

    • Some Garmin navigational systems allow you to view the land and building in three dimensions. The feature offers a realistic view of the terrain, from restaurants, stores, gas stations and entertainment locations. Garmin devices come with an estimated 6 million places of interest for United States, Mexico and Canada.

    Lane Assistance

    • Garmin navigational devices show crossroads, road signs and the entire route, including arrows for the appropriate lane and direction you need to head. This feature highlights the correct lane and upcoming exits and turns, so you can prepare to navigate safely.
