The Gateway 600YGR is an older model laptop with a variety of features. The 600YGR includes a port replicator that supports the use of docking stations and several basic security features. In addition to power-on password protection, the 600YGR also supports a hard-drive password. As a deterrent to physical theft, it includes PCI bay and system memory compartment security screws and a security slot and ring designed to physically secure the laptop.

Processor and Memory
-
The 600YGR was available with a choice of processors from the Intel Celeron or Pentium 4 processor families. These processors are compatible with the micro-FCPGA2 socket and have a 512K L2 data cache. The motherboard of the 600YGR uses an Intel 845MP chipset with a PCI Bus. The motherboard's front side bus transfers data to the processor at 400 MHz. The 600YGR supports a maximum of one gigabyte of system memory. It uses 266 megahertz DDRAM system memory and has two 200-pin DDR-SODIMM sockets available.

Video Capabilities
-
With an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics controller, the 600YGR provides a total of 64MB of DDRAM video memory. The Radeon 7500 provides 256-bit 3-D and 2-D graphics acceleration on a 15.0-inch or 15.7-inch LCD display. These displays are TFT or active matrix displays with a maximum resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels for the 15-inch XGA display, and 1280 by 1024 for the 15.7-inch SXGA display. Both displays can show up to 32-bit depth color, providing up to 16.7 million colors. The video card also supports dual display or dual view and supports external video resolutions up to 1,920 by 1,200 pixels with a 21-bit color depth.

Audio Capabilities
-
Audio for the 600YGR is provided by an ES 1988 sound card made by ESS. This card uses a PCI interface to provide 3D Direct Sound and Multi-stream Direct Sound support. Digital audio support for DVDs is also provided using the included DVD decoder. Digital audio output is provided using the port replicator and Toslink optical S/PDIF audio jack. Audio capture is supported using an internal omni-directional microphone. This computer also supports audio input through a traditional microphone input jack and stereo line input. The 600GYR includes a pair of speakers with a maximum output of 1 watt that are built into the palm rest below the keyboard. The laptop also has a 3.5mm stereo headphone output jack.

Power
-
AC power for the 600GYR is provided by a 19VDC adapter with an 80W output, which provides automatic voltage adjustment between 100 and 240 VAC for 50 Hz to 60 Hz power sources. Battery power for the 600GYR is provided by a pair of Lithium ion batteries. The main battery pack is a 9-cell battery with an embedded controller for smart battery support; the secondary battery is a 6-cell battery pack. The exact duration and charge time of these batteries depends on their usage -- processor-intensive programs will drain the battery more quickly.

Networking and Ports
-
The 600YGR provides networking capability through an integrated V.92 dial-up modem, an Ethernet controller and a wireless Ethernet card. The wireless Ethernet card occupies the Mini-PCI expansion slot and uses the IEEE 802.11b networking standard with 40-bit WEP and 128-bit RC4 security encryption. The 600YGR also provides a PCMIA port that accommodates one Type III or two Type II PCMIA cards and a pair of USB 1.1 ports. The 600YGR has a VGA port for an external monitor, an S-video port for output to a television, a serial port and a parallel port.
