Some babies are born with curly hair that requires extra care and styling know-how, but it does not need to be a difficult process. There are products that are more suited to curly hair and a variety of styles to try on baby's hair to keep it tamed.
Loose Curls
-
The easiest style for baby's hair is to leave it loose. A baby's curly hair needs to be cared for properly, however. A common mistake is to shampoo too often. This will strip the natural oils from the scalp, causing the hair and scalp to become dry. Shampooing baby's curly hair need only be done once or twice a week. Conditioning is an essential part of caring for baby's hair because of the moisture it contains. Detanglers are also beneficial and will smooth curly locks. It is important to comb baby's curly hair only when it is wet, and use a wide tooth comb instead of a brush.
Pigtails
-
Pigtails are not only for babies with straight hair. This is an easy style that will keep hair away from baby's face. Part the hair down the middle, gather the hair on one side and secure it with a small hair band. Repeat with hair on the other side. For any loose hairs that need to be secured, try using small hair clips for added style or to match with baby's outfit.
Ponytail on Top
-
This is also a simple style that keeps curls tamed and out of baby's face. Grab a small section of hair from the sides and top of the head. Gather into a small ponytail on top and secure with a small hair band, leaving the lower hair loose. This look can also be dressed up with small clips or barrettes to hold in loose hair pieces or for accent. Try tying a small ribbon around the ponytail to dress it up.
Accessories
-
An alternative to leaving baby's curly hair loose is to add accessories. Choose from barrettes, small clips and dressy hair pins to match baby's clothes and hold hair out of baby's face. Try placing one or two small clips at the front to hold hair back and out of baby's eyes, or place a few throughout the hair.
