How to Adjust Equalizers for Less Feedback

Adjusting equalizers is very important when it comes to mixing and performing music. Equalizers, whether analog or 31-band digital, control the tone balance when connected to audio. Setting the equalizer sliders the proper way is important for maintaining and perfecting sound in all types of audio recordings. Incorrect settings for equalizer balance can cause unwanted feedback through monitor speakers and microphones.

  Adjust all of the sliders on the equalizer so they are level with each other, just above the halfway point. Slide the "Master Knob" slider up slowly until you hear some slight feedback.

  Move the "Master Knob" slider down slightly until the feedback sound fades away.

  Slide the "Highest Frequency" slider up until you hear feedback. Slide the slider down a little until the feedback sound disappears.

  Repeat the same action for each slider on the equalizer. Turn down the "Master Knob" slider to a level setting when you're done adjusting the other sliders.
