How to Change the Oil in a Nissan Armada

The Nissan Armada requires an oil change every 3,000 miles when using regular engine oil. The interval is 7,500 miles when using a synthetic oil. The Nissan Armada must have fresh oil to ensure the engine components are properly lubricated and stay cool while the vehicle is being operated. Engine oil will break down over time and if not exchanged for fresh oil, can cause severe engine trouble.

Park the truck on a flat surface. Set the parking brake.

    • 2

Unbolt the steel cover from under the truck for access to the oil filter, using a socket wrench. There are four bolts to undo, two on each side.

    • 3

Slide a drain pan under the engine. The oil pan is at the bottom of the engine.

    • 4

Unbolt the drain plug with a socket wrench and allow the oil to drain. This will take 10 to 15 minutes. Tighten the drain plug with a socket wrench once the oil has finished draining.

    • 5

Unscrew the oil filter with a filter wrench. Place the old filter with the waste oil.

    • 6

Fill the new oil filter with oil. Spread fresh engine oil around the gasket at the top with your index finger to lubricate the gasket. This will make removal simpler at the next oil change.

    • 7

Screw in the oil filter by hand. Do not wrench-tighten it, as this strips the threads on the oil filter housing and oil filter.

    • 8

Install the steel shield back under the truck with the socket wrench. Start all four bolts by hand and then tighten them with the socket wrench.

    • 9

Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. Unscrew the oil fill cap at the top of the engine. Pour in 5 qts. of oil. Pull the engine oil dipstick out by hand. It will be located next to where the oil is poured in. Wipe the dipstick off with a rag and then insert it back into the tube. Pull the dipstick back out and verify where the level stops on the dipstick. If it stops anywhere below the "full" mark, add in 1/2-qt. intervals until it is full. Tighten the oil cap back onto the engine.

Start the truck and allow it to idle for five minutes. Turn the truck off and let it sit for an additional five minutes. Check the engine oil once more and add more if necessary. Ensure the oil cap and dipstick are back in their respective positions and close the hood.
