How to Cheaply Renovate a Camp House

Camp houses can become getaway locations for weekend trips to the woods, hunting trips or just day-vacation spots when they are renovated properly. Turning a camp house into one that includes comforts and conveniences to make them livable does not require a huge outlay of money. Cheaply renovating a cabin or small camp retreat is possible if you take your time, do some price comparisons and do the majority of the work yourself.

Assess the camp house and its structure. Make sure that the building itself will support renovations and the structure is in sound condition.

Take photographs of both the interior and exterior of the property. Use a tape measure and get measurements of all areas. Make a list of what contents are in the camp house and keep all information organized by area. Review the list and note what portions of the camp house are to remain as they are and decide what areas need to be renovated.

Review and assess the kitchen and dining area. Sand and refinish cabinets to give them a new look for a low cost. Add new handles and hardware to further update the area. Sand and paint or stain tables and chairs to renovate them. Add chair cushions, tablecloths and new lighting fixtures to the area. Replace flooring with leftover pieces found at hardware stores which cost less money. Use linoleum or tile and install on your own. Use throw rugs to cover carpeting that is not being replaced.

Renovate the living and sitting areas by putting slipcovers over sofas and chairs that are still in good condition and are not being replaced. Paint or stain additional furniture to change the look of the room. Use rugs, pillows, blankets and lamps to renovate the space for less money by shopping for sale items. Use framed photographs for inexpensive wall pieces and consider painting or wallpapering walls.
