How to Clean a Vinyl Camper Canvas

Campers are a mobile home away from home for many people. Routine maintenance and cleaning will keep your camper safe and ready for use at any time. Canvas panels or awning components need to be cleaned and allowed to dry before rolling or folding for storage, which will reduce exposure to dirt, debris or moisture that causes rot or damage. Cleaning requires only a little time and will extend canvas life of the canvas by many years.
    • 1

Close all of the windows and doors of your camper. Stretch out the canvas awning on its frame. Adjust the canvas so that it is at a 45-degree angle.

    • 2

Add one-third cup of mild dish soap into your bucket. Fill the bucket three-quarters full of water from the hose. Spray the water into the bucket with enough force to mix the ingredients.

    • 3

Wet the canvas awning with the water hose. Start at the top and work toward the bottom. Use enough force to wash away any loose debris.

    • 4

Dip the scrub brush into the soapy water. Scrub the canvas awning from top to bottom. Use small circular motions.

    • 5

Rinse with the water hose. Allow the soapy residue to fall to the ground. Let the canvas awning dry overnight before rolling it up for storage.
