Launching a Stunt Kite with a Partner
- 1
Lay the stunt kite on the ground with the side where the string attaches facing up towards the sky. Unroll both control lines until there is about 75 feet of control line free. Stretch out both control lines and make sure they are the same length.
- 2
Instruct your helper to lift the kite up off the ground. Do not allow the control lines to tangle during this process. Hold both handles in your hands.
- 3
Position both you and your partner so that the wind is at your back, but blowing into your partner's face.
- 4
Pull back gently on the control lines so there is a small amount of tension on the lines.
- 5
Wait for a steady wind to begin to blow, and ask your partner to lightly toss the stunt kite straight up. Ideally, the wind will carry the kite upwards.
Launching the Kite Alone
- 1
Position the kite so that the side of the kite where the control lines connect is facing into the wind. Lay the stunt kite on the ground with the side where the string attaches facing up towards the sky. Unroll both control lines until there is about 75 feet of control line free. Stretch out both control lines and make sure they are the same length.
- 2
Push a large screwdriver into the ground, directly in front of the kite. Pick up the kite, and place one of the strings from the bottom of the kite over top of the screwdriver. Lay the kite back towards the ground so that the kite is leaning at approximately a 30-degree angle.
- 3
Pick up both handles in your hands and pull gently on the control lines. There should be a small amount of tension on the lines, but not enough to knock the kite off of the screwdriver.
- 4
Wait for a steady wind to blow. Lift up on the control lines to unhook the stunt kite from the screwdriver. Walk backwards into the wind, and the kite will begin to rise into the air.
