How to Program a Key for a 2006 Impala

The 2006 Chevrolet Impala comes equipped with a keyless entry remote. The remote locks and unlocks doors, opens the trunk, and makes the horn and lights come on. The transponder key designed for the 2006 Impala must be programmed before it starts the car. If you lose or break your key, you have the option to order a key and have the dealer program it. You can also have a new key cut by an automobile locksmith and program it yourself.
  • Programming with No Working Key

      Obtain a new key from a locksmith. Insert the new key in your ignition and set the key to the "ON" position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

      Wait 45 seconds and switch key to the "OFF" position. Switch key to the "ON" position again and wait 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

      Wait 45 seconds and switch the key to the "OFF" position again. Turn key to "ON" for another 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

      Switch key to "OFF" and back to the "ON" position. Test key by starting your vehicle.

    Programming a Duplicate Key

      Obtain a new key from a locksmith. Insert your programmed key into the ignition.

      Switch the key to the "ON" position and wait five seconds. Switch the key to "OFF."

      Remove the programmed key and insert the new key within five seconds. Switch the key to "ON" for five seconds.

      Switch the key to the "OFF" position and back to the "ON" position. Test the key by starting your vehicle.
