Disassemble your laptop according to the instructions found in the your Toshiba laptop disassembly manual listed in the link below in the "Resources" section. Cut the plastic supports out of the base assembly with the knife, making sure the side where the new jack will mount is flat and even.
- 2
Cut the plastic that surrounds the mounting hole with the knife and increase the circumference of the hole by cutting it with the knife to expand it wide enough for the replacement jack to fit properly through.
- 3
Fold the negative lead on the jack in half so that the ends meet. This shortens the lead so the laptop cover can sit on the base properly. Coat both ends of the negative lead with fresh solder.
- 4
Remove the old DC power jack, then cut the wires that trail from the jack where they meet the jack box. Use the knife to strip the wires, then twist them together and solder the area where they are twisted together. Plug the positive red or green cable into the marked positive lead on the new jack. Plug the negative black cable into the negative lead.
- 5
Set the new DC power jack into the base. Apply solder where the wires connect to the corresponding leads on the new DC power jack. Leave adequate space to replace the cover and the right speaker when you go to reassemble everything. Wrap electrical tape around the negative and positive leads. Turn the nut on the DC power jack clockwise with your fingers until it stops turning.
- 6
Ascertain which plastic walls are going to stand where the power jack should sit after the cover is secured. Cut these walls out with the knife. Put your laptop back together by following the procedure you used to disassemble your laptop in Step 1, in reverse order.

How to Repair a Toshiba Laptop DC Jack
DC power jacks on Toshiba laptops generally malfunction because a crack has developed between the pin on the DC power jack and the motherboard for the laptop. This causes a loss of contact. This task will require you to operate a soldering iron safely. You will additionally disassemble your laptop to access the area where you will make the needed repairs. If you feel unable to complete either of these steps safely, then consider the services of a professional computer technician.
