How to Sell Home Organizing Products

Selling products is a career choice for many entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial activity in the U.S. has thrived despite a rough economy. In 2007, entrepreneurs made up 9.6 percent of the American work force, and that number grew to 10.8 percent in 2008, according to Emerging Minds. Becoming an independent and successful home organizing product salesman in the U.S. requires exposure, branding and constant marketing. It is important for customers to know what is being sold and who is selling it to create a level of trust.

      Register your name with the secretary of state's office in your state, if you plan on selling organizing products for a living. You will also need permits and licenses for running the business out of your home, if the majority of the transactions occur there. Permits and licenses may vary depending on the state you live in, so ask for the appropriate permits and licenses for your state.

      Make business cards, so you have something to give to potential customers when you meet them. You want the cards to state your name and your profession, which is a home organizing products sales person. The business cards should also have your website, email address and phone number.

You need to not only target the direct market with your business cards and website, but also smaller retailers and privately owned stores with a printed catalog.

      Attend home organization, home style and home decor conventions. These conventions will both introduce you to potential customers and allow you to brand yourself in the industry. Be available to answer potential questions or concerns customers may have with the products you are selling.

      Keep track of all of your sales and income from the home organization products. You will need to keep all receipts from your sales to pay your self-employment taxes, which need to be paid quarterly.

If you are an affiliate, you will use your personal website and business card to promote the home organization products, but the company will handle the questions and concerns, the sales and the orders. You will simply receive a commission check.
