How to Tell if a FOB Is From a 1999 Ford Explorer

While many key FOBs are only used as a chain or ring that holds all of your keys, some key FOBs are used as a wireless entry remote. Some 1999 Ford Explorer models come with the keyless entry system installed, which give you the ability to control the internal locking system using a remote. Not just any remote will work for your Explorer though. There is a specific model of key FOB remote that can be programmed to your 1999 Ford Explorer.

Turn over the key FOB so that you can read the back cover. If the lettering is too small for you to read, use a magnifying glass and look at it under light.

Look through the sets of numbers, and locate the "FCC ID."

    • 3

Write down the FCC ID number. Your 1999 Explorer must have one of a few specific FCC ID numbers in order to function correctly.

Compare the FCC ID number to the following codes: CWTWB1U345, CWTWB1U331, CWTWB1U212 or GQ43VT11T. It must be one of those four in order to work.
