How to Test a Transponder

Transponder key remotes are programmed to an onboard transmitter system. They can be used to control a number of your car's features from up to a couple hundred feet away. You can test the transponder by reprogramming it to the system and attempting to use it.

  Turn the ignition key to "On" and then back to "Off" eight times within 10 seconds, and stop in the "Run" position.

  Wait for the locks to click automatically. Press any button on the remote within 20 seconds.

  Wait for the locks to click again. Turn the ignition key back to the "Off" position.

  Press any button on your remote to see if it works.
