How to Update Microsoft 2003 to 2007

Consumers updating their Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007 will need to make sure their computer meets the minimum requirements prior to updating. These requirements include: a processor with at least 500 megahertz, random access memory (RAM) of at least 256 megabytes, a display resolution of at least 1024 by 768, and an operating system with Windows XP or higher. Once it is determined that the computer meets the requirements, updating to Microsoft Office 2007 can be done in just a few steps.
    • 1

Insert the Microsoft Office 2007 disc into your CD or DVD drive and follow the instructions on the screen. If you come to a screen that asks whether you want to "Upgrade" or "Customize," you can choose to "Upgrade" and have the option of saving your old Microsoft Office 2003 version on your computer. If you choose "Customize," you will have the option of choosing from the applications available. You can choose to have access to all of the applications or you can decide to pick and choose from the list of applications you want installed.

Wait for the installation process to complete. This can take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes.

Validate the authenticity of your Microsoft Office 2007 by clicking on "Go to Office Online." If you do not have Internet access you can call Microsoft at 866-432-3012 and provide the Installation Code that was displayed on your computer screen during installation. Without validating authenticity, access will be limited to approximately 25 application runs.
