Wearing a United States Marine Corps uniform signifies a sense of honor, courage and pride. Federal laws limit the wearing uniform for both active and inactive members, detailing who can wear them when and where. The uniform should be worn appropriately, showing no midriffs or cleavage. When a soldier wears this uniform, he represents the United States.

Only Marines are allowed to wear the United States Marine Corps uniforms. No Marine is allowed to wear any article of uniform from another Marine. Retired and former members and officers not on active duty are authorized to wear the uniform in certain events such as a funeral, wedding, parade or national holiday. One can only wear the uniform rank or grade they are in or reached while in the service. Any marine that has received the Congressional Medal of Honor can wear the uniform at any time.

A Marine uniform can only be worn on certain circumstances. It is reserved to those on military-related duties. It cannot be worn at a religious site unless approved. It cannot be worn to promote advancement for private purposes, a job interview or business deal. It can never, in any circumstance, be worn to bring discredit to the USMC. Marines are not allowed to pump gas or run errands while in uniform on their way to or from base. They are allowed to stop for a medical emergency or traffic accident.

Actors are permitted to wear a USMC uniform because they are portraying someone in the USMC. The actor wearing the uniform cannot bring discredit or shame to the USMC while wearing the uniform.
Personal Appearance

While wearing the USMC uniform, a Marine cannot have designs cut into her hair. She cannot have shiny metal or gems in their teeth at anytime. She also cannot wear any flashy jewelry.
