Nursing Documentation Training

One of the duties attached to nursing is keeping detailed documentation of information relating to patients. Training is available both online and in person and provides information on a variety of topics, from incident reports to the legal issues surrounding nursing documentation.
  • History

    • Doctors used to only pay attention to labs, reports and notes made by other doctors, but contemporary health-care practices expect nurses to provide such information. Thus, training on how to keep proper documentation is an asset to any nurse.

    Topics

    • Nursing documentation training programs provide instruction on the purpose of documentation, the consequences of incorrect or incomplete documentation, legal issues surrounding documentation, information technology and documentation, and incident reports, among other topics.

    Accreditation

    • Training is available through private companies both in person and online. Nurses seeking training should ensure that their training provider is approved by the relevant state nursing association and/or the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
