Repair the Seal on a Freezer Door

Your freezer's gasket keeps cold air inside the freezer, increasing efficiency and keeping your cooling bills low. Over time, gaskets may become discolored, harden and show signs of cracking. Even small cracks will reduce the efficiency of the freezer. Call your refrigerator manufacturer for the replacement part or visit a hardware store to see if they have a suitable replacement.
    • 1

Loosen, but do not remove, the hex screws around the freezer seal.

    • 2

Pull the old gasket off the freezer.

    • 3

Place the top corners of the new gasket in place and snap the seal onto the freezer door. Snap each clip into the freezer door until the gasket is in place.

    • 4

Tighten the hex screws slightly, but do not tighten them all the way.

    • 5

Close the freezer door and check for any warping or misalignment. Adjust the gasket as necessary.

    • 6

Tighten down the hex screws fully and rub petroleum jelly along the gasket to keep it from sticking.
