The Quadrunner 160 is an all-terrain vehicle designed by Suzuki. The Quad is certainly smaller than most on the market, but a reliable and heavy-duty reputation, as well as front and back carry racks, have made these vehicles popular among farmers looking for something to get them around their land as they work.
Power
-
A four-stroke, single-cylinder, overhead cam engine with 158-cc displacement drives the Suzuki Quadrunner. With a bore and stroke of 2.3 inches by 2.4 inches, the compression ratio -- the ratio of the cylinder head volume compared to the volume of the piston before and after a compression stroke -- is 9.2-to-1. Delivering the fuel from the 2.2-gallon tank is a Mikuni VM20SS carburetor and transferring the power down to the wheels is a five-speed transmission system with reverse capabilities, 84-link chain final drive and an automatic clutch. Sparking this ensemble into action is a capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) system and electric starter.
Dimensions
-
Sitting on a wheelbase of 42.1 inches, the Suzuki's chassis is 63.4 inches long, 38.8 inches wide and 39.4 inches tall. The bottom of the frame clears the floor by 5.3 inches and the seat is positioned 28.5 inches from ground level. Front tires 20 inches in diameter with a cross section of 7 inches fit 8-inch diameter wheels. The back tires are slightly larger with a 22-inch overall diameter and 10-inch cross section, but just like the front they fit onto 8-inch diameter wheels. The dry weight of the all-terrain vehicle is 341 pounds. This is the weight of a vehicle once all of its fluids -- such as oil and gas -- have been drained.
Brakes and Suspension
-
Tasked with absorbing the bumps and jumps on off-road ventures, the Suzuki is equipped with a swing axle, oil-damped, coil spring, independent suspension system at the front of the vehicle. Helping out from the rear is a swinging arm, oil-damped, coil spring system with five-way adjustable preload. Bringing the Quad to halt are mechanical drum brakes at the back, accompanied by double hydraulic disc brakes at the front.
