Most people experience phases in life and situations in which they are unsure of themselves. Negative thoughts of yourself lower your self-worth. Those who have low opinions of themselves or little self-value may become depressed or withdrawn and make reckless decisions. It is important to value yourself for your personal accomplishments, capabilities, potential and talents.
Mantra
-
Spend a few minutes of every day focusing on positive thoughts. Focus on strengths, goals and accomplishments. Intentionally control all of the thoughts that occur to you during these few minutes. Immediately stifle any negative thoughts and steer your train of thought back to positive things. When you make a habit of staying positive about life, it becomes second nature to think positive thoughts about yourself.
Journaling
-
Keep a journal to log all of your daily goals and accomplishments. Set rules for yourself as to how many good things you will write about yourself on a daily basis. This slowly fills the journal with accomplishments and positive things to reinforce how much you value yourself.
Time Alone
-
Set aside some time for yourself. Use this time to do things you enjoy, by yourself. For example, watching your favorite movies, reading, taking a class, crafting, working out and cooking are all activities that can be done regularly and enjoyed alone. Even the journey in discovering which activities interest you can build self worth, as you learn more about yourself. Once established, ensure you observe this time once a month or once a week if possible to keep your stress levels down, and your self-confidence at healthy levels.
Join a Team
-
Join a group or team in a sport or activity you enjoy. Set aside time to meet with the group. If necessary, start a group for an activity you enjoy. For example, create a book club or host a monthly event. Being an important part of a group increases self-worth by interaction with others who value your contribution to the team.
