Beauty pageants judge more than just physical attributes. posing beauty queen image by LadyInBlack from Fotolia.com
Preparing for a beauty pageant is more than just beautiful hair, makeup and a gown. A big part of judging is the question-and-answer session. Inside that pretty head should be a well-prepared contestant ready to answer questions without fear and anxiety. Here are some tips geared toward giving you confidence to improve your interview skills.
How to Answer Questions
-
More than likely, your question will not be a simple "yes" or "no" question, and under no circumstances should you answer "yes" or "no." Relax and feel confident. Count to three before answering, if needed.
Give answers that are honest and sincere. Don't get defensive. Instead, give a politically correct answer if you feel the question is too controversial. Always start with an opener such as, "I feel that ..." Answer the question, then end it with a summary and a smile.
Type of Questions
-
Some of the questions will be about you. Know your favorites, such as role models, actors or actresses, books and sports teams. Always expand on your answer by telling why you have these favorites. Other questions might be about your personality and future. Those questions should be easier to answer.
Know Current Events
-
Harder questions will be about current events, especially politics and sensitive topics. Watch the news or read it on the Internet. Know what's happening in your community and nationally. Study a few political figures to familiarize yourself with their views. Study issues that are controversial, such as gang violence, immigration or Internet bullying. Knowledge concerning some of these hot topics is necessary.
Practice Your Answers
-
Hold a mock question-and-answer session with family or friends. If you need to write down the answer, do it. But never sound like your answer is rehearsed. Remember to keep it real.
