U.S. Customs and Border Patrol in El Paso, TX

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) is a mobile, uniformed law enforcement division of the Department. The U.S. Border Patrol was established on May 28, 1924, with the El Paso Border Patrol created on July 1, 1924.
  • History

    • Law enforcement officers have guarded the border between the U.S. and Mexico since 1904 to control the flow of illegal aliens and goods into the U.S, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The Immigration Act of 1924 saw the establishment of the El Paso Border Patrol, with stations throughout the El Paso sector quickly opened to station law enforcement officers.

    Headquarters

    • The El Paso sector is one of nine border patrol sectors along the Southwest U.S. border with Mexico, the headquarters of the sector are in El Paso, Texas. The El Paso sector has 11 more stations including vehicle checkpoints, in places such as Fort Hancock and Santa Teresa.

    Size

    • The Department of Homeland Security reports the El Paso sector controlled by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol encompasses the entire state of New Mexico, and the two most westerly counties of Texas, which are Hudspeth and El Paso. The El Paso sector covers 125,500 square miles, containing 268 miles of international border.
