Which Scanner Models Will Transfer Slides to PC?

    • Scanners can be used to transfer a variety of images and documents to your computer. However, some scanners are also able to transfer slides and film to your PC. While some scanners can do so in addition to transferring ordinary photos and documents, some scanners are specially designed to scan slides and transfer them to your PC. Typically, the specialized scanners will provide better scanning resolution for film and slides than ordinary scanners and these are often employed by professionals who need the extra quality.

    Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED

    • The company that has become synonymous with photography puts out a specialty scanner capable of scanning slides and other kinds of film. The Coolscan 9000 ED features a Nikon ED lens for extremely sharp scans and the scans are done in true 4,000 dpi quality. The scanner features a CCD scanner similar to those used in professional digital cameras. In addition to scanning slides, the Coolscan 9000 ED is also capable of scanning film and microscope slides.

    Epson Perfection V300 Photo

    • This scanner from Epson offers 4,800 dpi resolution for scanning and can scan photos as well as 35 mm slides. The scanner is capable of scanning at 48-bit color depth and can also scan documents up to legal size documents (though it is optimized for scanning photos). The scanner works with both Windows and Macintosh systems and offers a USB 2.0 connection to connect to PCs and Macs. The scanner also includes software to help you with scanning your photos and documents.

    HP Scanjet G3110

    • The HP ScanJet G3110, unlike the other two scanners, is not a specialized scanner, though it comes with an adapter to scan small slides and film. The Scanjet G3110 also features 4,800 dpi resolution and 48-bit color depth. It has four buttons on the machine itself which allow you to scan automatically to a file, a PDF, to email or to the printer (so you can make a copy of a document or picture). It also comes with specialized software to help you with your scanning needs, which is available for either Windows or OSX. The scanner also offers a standard USB 2.0 connection to your computer.
