Caterpillar G3616 Engine Specifications

    • The Caterpillar G3616 is a gas-powered, 16-cylinder engine used in heavy machinery and construction equipment. It's intended to be used in oil drilling equipment and in conjunction with other G3616 motors. It is extremely large, weighing more than 60,000 pounds including the large onboard turbocharger. One of its key features is its monitoring system that provides info to an onboard LCD screen and can also be hooked up to computer systems to output current operating metrics.

    Engine Specifications

    • The G3616 is a four-stroke V-16 engine with a 20,698 cubic inch displacement. It features an onboard turbocharger which has its own after-cooler to help moderate the turbo's temperature. The engine has a bore measuring 11.8 inches and a stroke of 11.8 inches. It has an overall weight of 65,900 pounds and a total power density of 13.1 pounds per horsepower.

    Standard and Optional Equipment

    • Standard equipment on the G3616 includes an air inlet system, electronic control panel with electronic ignition control, a full cooling system with a single-stage after cooler, and an additional LCD instrument panel providing engine diagnostic codes and operating parameters. The full lubrication system and mounting system are included as well. Optional equipment includes an expansion tank for the cooling system, additional instrumentation panels, natural gas ignition systems and charging alternators.

    Engine Features

    • The G3616 motor features a lean-running design that consumes excess amounts of air that absorbs heat during combustion and reduces combustion temperature and pressure. This helps reduce the overall emissions. Built-in electronic engine management controls metrics such as air/fuel ratio and provides a user interface for the engine operator.
