The Christian rite of passage known as confirmation acknowledges a person's spiritual maturity and autonomy. Most, though not all, denominations of Christianity offer some form of confirmation. This public affirmation of faith can occur at any point in an individual's life, but is typically celebrated during the the high school years. For a young woman, confirmation indicates the beginning of her adult life as a member of the Christian faith. Appropriate gifts depend on your relationship to the young woman and your level of involvement in that particular congregation.

    Religious Jewelry

    • For her sponsor or a close relative of the same faith, a religiously related piece of jewelry such as a cross necklace or earrings is an appropriate gift. If you have known the young woman since she was a baby, religious jewelry is a reminder of the importance of faith within your family. Most Christian stores and websites sell cross jewelry in a variety of metals, styles and sizes. For a young woman, a gold or silver cross makes a beautiful emblem of her religious commitment. Semi-precious stones adorn the more expensive pieces, while others are simple, pure and modest. Select a piece that fits her personality in terms of flashiness. Have the necklace or earrings engraved on the back with a personalized message, the date and location of her confirmation.

    Book

    • A religious book encourages a continuation of her religious education in a new way, as an educated member of the congregation. Avoid giving a general book about Christianity and teenagers. Instead, find a book about an area of interest of interest, such as sports, as it relates to Christianity. If she plays soccer, consider an inspiring story of a Christian soccer player. Most Christian bookstores and online websites offer books pertaining to a variety of hobbies and activities including, sports, music and community service from the standpoint of Christianity.

    Money

    • If you haven't spent much time with the young woman, but are close friends with one of her parents, such as a coworker or distant relative, cash is always a good choice. While some argue that money gifts diminish the meaning of the occasion, attempting to give a completely irrelevant gift to someone you don't know well is less appealing. Other monetary-themed gifts include stock certificates and savings bonds. But as a teenager, cash is probably most useful. Make sure to include a thoughtful card along with your gift.
