How to Get Certified for Hazmat Operations

Hazardous materials (hazmat) that spill in high-risk areas and facilities must be handled appropriately to provide safety for site workers, innocent bystanders and property. Students seeking a career as fire fighters and hazmat workers must undergo hazardous materials awareness certifications and a hazardous materials operations course program. After course training, you can file an application to become certified for hazmat operations.

  Receive a Hazardous Materials Certification Application Form (see References). Print legibly and in black ink, filling in all the appropriate areas of the form. You need to provide your social security number, identification number, name, address and all available phone numbers (home, work or cell). Include an email address if applicable.

  Indicate on the form which level of hazardous materials certification you are seeking. Mark in the box for hazmat operations. You have to attach photocopies of course completion certificates or other verifying documents that state you had satisfied all requirements of hazardous materials operations certification.

  Review that you have meet the requirements for hazmat certification operations. You will need to have certification for hazardous materials awareness and have a certificate of completion for hazardous materials operations. Verify that you have provided the information on the form and that all statements are true to the best of your knowledge. Sign the application and write in the date.
