DIY Fix Bump in Bumper

The bumper is meant to help protect your car from being damaged by minor scrapes and impacts. Unfortunately, that means that sometimes it's your bumper that takes the hit, and it can get dented. Fortunately, if it's a relatively small bump that you have left over from running into the mailbox, or something similar, then you should be able to fix it with nothing more than a heat gun and some patience if the bumper's plastic.

Plug in your heat gun and warm the area of the bumper where there's a bump. The plastic bumper cover has something of a memory, and minor bumps might just pop right out once the plastic is somewhat pliable. If the bump is too big, though, you'll need to take additional steps.

Remove the plastic cover from your bumper and place it on a single towel. Heat the bump until the plastic is pliable, and then press out from the backside of the bumper to massage out the bump. Don't overheat, as melted plastic or blistered paint isn't attractive either.

Slip the plastic cover back onto your bumper. Make sure that it's firmly in place and that it won't slide off. Once the cover's back on, your bump problem should be taken care of.
