Pool Filter Cleaning
- 1
Turn off the pool filter's power. Remove the filter from its housing according to the owner's manual.
- 2
Rinse the paper pool filter with a garden hose held at a 45-degree angle. Rinse the inside and outside of the paper pool filter, working from the top down until there's no debris left between the pleats.
- 3
Spray the paper pool filter with filter cleaner until it's completely saturated, and allow it to soak for at least an hour or overnight.
- 4
Rinse the paper pool filter thoroughly with a garden hose. If the filter needs further cleaning because of algae or mineral buildup, soak it in a muriatic acid solution.
Muriatic Acid Soak
- 1
Place the paper pool filter in a large plastic bucket. Carefully add 20 parts water and 1 part muriatic acid to the bucket. Allow the filter to soak in the acid solution until it stops bubbling.
- 2
Remove the pool filter from the bucket and rinse it thoroughly with a garden hose.
- 3
Place the paper pool filter back in its housing, and turn on the filter system.
