How to Rate Hair Dryers

There are many types of hair dryers on the market today. A majority of them claim to be the best. The quality of a dryer depends on factors such as wattage, technology, comfort and materials. There are many ways to rate a hair dryer and there several factors to consider. You just have to decide what matters to you.

Take into account the time it takes to dry hair. It is easy to determine this based on the amount of watts the dryer has. The higher the wattage, the more power the hair dryer has and the faster it will dry your hair. The highest rated hair dryers dry the hair in the shortest amount of time.

Determine the amount of damage the dryer will cause to hair. Using a blow dryer causes damage to the hair follicle. Look for the words "ionic heat styling" on the hair dryer's label. This means the hair dryer uses ionic heat technology, causing less damage to the hair while drying. Ionic heat technology dries the hair from the inside out instead of the outside in, which other hair dryers do. These ions leave hair silky, shiny and less frizzy.

Weigh the comfort of the hair dryer. Ask yourself how it feels in your hand, whether the handle is easy to grip, whether it's too heavy and whether the hair dryer is complicated to use. Most people use their hair dryers at least several times a week, so the amount of comfort when using the hair dryer is vital to the rating.

Consider the overall price of the hair dryer. The price usually depends on the company or brand; the materials used, such as ceramic, which tends to be more expensive; and the warranty the hair dryer offers.
