How to Refill ThermaCELL Mats

As many campers will testify, few things are more irritating than the presence of mosquitoes. Along with its mosquito repellent action, the ThermaCELL also doubles up as a lantern that can be put to good use when you're camping outdoors. ThermaCELL mats are composed of a substance with pesticide properties called allethrin. The mat is placed on a metal grill slot that, when heated, repels mosquitoes. Igniting butane gas held within the lantern heats the mat, eliminating the need to carry batteries. Refill ThermaCELL mats when the allethrin is low and the number of bites is high.

  Switch off the appliance and allow the lantern to cool for a few minutes.

  Insert the new mat into the slot and simultaneously give a push to the old mat, which then drops out of the lantern.

  Switch on the appliance. Wait for about 10 seconds, then quickly press the START button three to five times. Ensure that the light at the end of the ThermaCELL glows, indicating that the metal slot is heating. Within the next 5 to 10 minutes, the appliance will begin its action of keeping mosquitoes at bay.
