How to Remove the Rear Seat on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler

The 1997 Jeep Wrangler has an extremely basic design. You can spray out the floorboard with water when it becomes dirty, and you can easily remove the seats, which are held in by bolts. Removing the back seat helps you create more room in the vehicle for cargo or even aftermarket components such as stereo speakers and amplifiers. Save the bolts and washers so the seat can go back in at any time.

Recline the front driver and passenger seat all the way forward for easier access to the backseat. This setup will also make removal of the bench seat easier once you have unbolted it.

Locate the bolt at each of the bench seat's four bottom corners.

    • 3

Unscrew the four bolts with a socket wrench. Save the bolts and washers for later use.

Pull the backseat out by dragging it out of the passenger side. You may need some assistance in removing this bulky seat.

    • 5

Place the seat in a dry, covered area to prevent the weather from getting to the seat.
