How to Reset an Oil Change Reminder on a 1999 Ford Windstar

The 1999 Ford Windstar has an oil change reminder alert built into the vehicle message center, a small window at the bottom edge of the speedometer. This system calculates the overall engine revolutions to determine when your Windstar needs an oil change. When the "Change Oil" light turns on, you should have your oil changed within one week. After you have the service performed, reset the oil change reminder.

  Find the Windstar's message center control to the left of the radio. You'll see three buttons: "Setup," "Info" and "Reset."

  Start the Windstar's engine, or insert the key and turn it to the "On" position to provide power to the electronics system.

  Press the "Setup" button on the message center control panel. Press the "Reset" button. The message center will read "System Check."

  Press and hold "Reset" for a few seconds. The screen will now show "Reset to Alter."

  Press "Reset" and "Setup" at the same time. You have now reset the system; the oil change reminder will go away.
