How to Upgrade Auto Light Bulbs

Headlight bulbs are often the ones drivers seek to upgrade. Several options are available for replacing the standard halogen bulbs. The choice you make will depend on such factors as cost, whether you drive at night on unlit roads and whether saving energy is a consideration. You can also go beyond halogen bulbs and install xenon high intensity discharge (HID) bulbs. Eventually, LED headlights will become an option for a headlight upgrade.

  Go online to check out your headlight bulb options (see Resources). Many different halogen bulbs are available and you can also read a description of the advantages of xenon HID headlight bulbs. You will also find different light levels, energy usages and colors.

  Find a source for the type of headlight bulb you think is best. Have alternates in mind in case some bulb types are unavailable.

  Replace your present headlight bulbs with the new bulbs. This is a good time to clean the headlight lenses; thus, use a lens restoration product or buy replacements.
