1990 Mazda 929 Performance

The 1990 Mazda 929 was one of the last models in the third-generation of this mid-size sedan. This model year was distinct, as the 1990 and 1991 model years both offered the performance-oriented S model.
  • Base Model

    • The base 929 derived its power from a naturally aspirated three-liter V-6 engine with a 3.5-inch bore (piston diameter) and three-inch stroke (cylinder movement). This engine had modest bore and stroke dimensions, meaning that an average amount of fuel was consumed per engine revolution. This motor generated 158 horsepower and 170 ft-lbs. of torque. The torque rating conveys the amount of twisting power delivered to the drive wheels.

    929 S

    • The 929 S model had a more powerful three-liter V-6 motor with a 3.66-inch bore and 2.89-inch stroke. This powerplant produced 190 horsepower and 205 ft-lbs. of torque. The higher torque of the 929 S offered faster acceleration than the base 929 model.

    Fuel Economy

    • The 158-horsepower 929 sedan got 19 miles per gallon in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, while the 929 S was rated at 18 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Both models were outfitted with a four-speed automatic transmission.
